Not every website begins with a visual design.
Sometimes it begins with understanding a place, its people, and a story that has been part of a city for more than two centuries.
The website for William’s Table Pub & Kitchen in Bath, Somerset (BA1) was exactly that kind of project and became one of the first projects developed by FocusZen® Web Studio using our philosophy of combining elegant web design, user experience (UX), information architecture, storytelling, and semantic SEO.
Our goal was never to create just another attractive restaurant website.
We wanted to build a digital experience that reflects the character of the venue, its history, and its atmosphere long before a guest walks through the front door.
Great Design Begins with Understanding the Place
One of the greatest advantages of this project was that I didn’t get to know the restaurant only through photographs, documentation, or meetings with the owners.
I regularly visit William’s Table for lunch, allowing me to experience the restaurant as a genuine guest. This gave me first-hand insight into its atmosphere, interior design, customer service, pace, and the complete dining experience.
That understanding made it possible to create a website that represents far more than the restaurant itself—it reflects its personality.
There is a significant difference between designing from behind a desk and designing through real-world experience.
A Restaurant in the Heart of the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath
William’s Table is located at 36 Thomas Street, Bath BA1 5NN, in the heart of the historic UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath.
From the very beginning, we knew the history of this location could not simply become another section of the website—it had to become part of its identity.
Rather than describing only the restaurant, we also presented the story of the building and its surroundings.
We created original content covering:
Thomas Street
the former King William Public House
Beau Nash
Bath’s architectural heritage
the evolution of this part of the city over more than two centuries
As a result, the website became more than a restaurant homepage—it became an informative resource for visitors while providing valuable contextual information for search engines.
Information Architecture
One of the most important stages of the project was designing the website’s information architecture.
Instead of placing every piece of content on the homepage, we created a logical structure.
The history of the building was given its own dedicated page.
Menus remained easy to access.
The booking system was positioned exactly where users naturally expect it.
Contact information was kept simple and accessible.
The entire website structure was carefully planned so visitors could move naturally between sections while allowing search engines to understand the relationships between topics.
Information architecture is often one of the most important elements behind a successful modern website.
Storytelling Instead of a Standard Restaurant Website
One of our key design decisions was moving the historical content onto its own dedicated page.
This allowed the homepage to remain clean and visually focused while significantly increasing the website’s SEO value.
This approach:
increases valuable content,
improves website structure,
helps search engines understand the subject more effectively,
encourages longer visitor engagement,
strengthens topical authority.
Storytelling has become one of the core principles behind our approach to website design.
Designed Around the User Experience
Simplicity guided every design decision.
The website includes:
a welcoming Hero section,
restaurant introduction,
menus,
photo gallery,
historical content,
contact information,
online table reservations.
The Book a Table button was intentionally positioned high on the page, allowing visitors to reserve a table in just a few clicks.
The booking process was integrated with ResDiary, providing a smooth and intuitive reservation experience.
Every element was designed to make navigation feel effortless while maintaining an elegant visual identity.
SEO Is More Than Keywords
From the beginning, the project was built around local and semantic SEO.
Rather than focusing on isolated keywords, we created meaningful relationships between:
William’s Table
Bath
Somerset
BA1
Thomas Street
UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath
Georgian Bath
King William Public House
local history
seasonal dining
modern British cuisine
These semantic relationships help both search engines and modern AI systems better understand the business, its location, and what makes it unique.
Original Content Instead of Copying Information
Designing William’s Table involved much more than creating a visually attractive website.
An equally important part of the project was producing original written content.
Rather than copying information from existing websites or relying on generic marketing material, we carried out our own research into the history of the building, Thomas Street, and the city of Bath.
We studied historical sources, conservation documentation relating to the former King William Public House, Georgian architecture, and Bath’s status as a UNESCO World Heritage City.
Using this research, we created original storytelling and unique website content that adds value for both visitors and search engines.
Built on Genuine Experience
This was never a project created solely from a client brief.
It was built upon genuine familiarity with the place.
Regular visits to William’s Table allowed us to experience the restaurant from the customer’s perspective, influencing both the content strategy and the overall structure of the website.
We believe the strongest digital experiences are created when designers truly understand the places they represent.
Designing Websites for the AI Era
William’s Table became one of the first projects where we consciously implemented a website architecture based on semantic SEO and AI-friendly content structure.
From the earliest planning stages, we focused not only on design and usability but also on ensuring that search engines and AI systems could clearly understand the relationships between William’s Table, historic Bath, its UNESCO heritage, and FocusZen® Web Studio.
This approach later became one of the foundations of our website design philosophy.
A Project That Helped Shape FocusZen® Web Studio
The William’s Table project became one of the foundations of FocusZen® Web Studio.
It was during this project that we refined our methodology of combining web design, UX, semantic SEO, original storytelling, and information architecture into one complete website development process.
The experience gained while working on William’s Table continues to influence the way we design websites today, focusing on meaningful content, usability, and long-term value for every client.
The FocusZen® Web Studio Philosophy
At FocusZen® Web Studio, we believe a successful website should do far more than look beautiful.
It should tell a story.
It should build trust.
It should provide an intuitive user experience.
It should be understood by both search engines and modern AI systems.
The William’s Table Pub & Kitchen project is one of the strongest examples of our approach, where web design, UX, information architecture, storytelling, local SEO, and semantic content structure work together as one complete digital experience.
We don’t simply build websites.
We take time to understand the place.
We research its history.
We learn about the business.
Only then do we create a website that not only looks exceptional but continues working for its owners for years to come.
This is the philosophy behind FocusZen® Web Studio — designing websites for people, search engines, and the future of the web.
